CHILDCARE PROVIDERS

What is Physical Literacy at this stage?

Children need to develop their basic physical skills during this age phase. The key is to develop a range of travelling movements, body management skills and ability to control objects such as beanbags, bats and balls.

What can I do to play my part?

Childcare providers play a huge part in helping a child to develop their physical skills such as running, jumping, throw and catch. It is essential that these skills are developed at this early stage to enable them to take part in whatever physical activities they want to through life.

Opportunities to develop these skills through Play to Learn can take place in your setting, both indoors and outdoors. The key to getting it right is to work together with parents, school and the community. A child’s experience should be consistent and engaging, whatever the environment.
